Trump's policies and rhetoric exactly match those of Josef Stalin ( mass arrests, mass deportations and huge system that supports it, religious discrimination, distrust of veterans and POWs, and most importantly, enemies of the state). Stalin, like Trump, had no use for the truth, was a master propagandist and felt that any means justified whatever ends he dreamed up. His propaganda, again like Trump's, built a huge following of people who supported him because he convinced them that they were patriots by doing so.
It has happened before, and it can happen here. (Those that know the different backgrounds of the US and the USSR will complain that we have a very different background - a more general liberty and regard for the individual vs centuries of serfdom and authoritarian rule, but I'd argue that a good propagandist, be it Trump, Stalin, or Goebbels can convince the population that they are victims, regardless of reality). The other thing is, that there are lots of Dems, like me, that don't like Mrs. Clinton.
I'll vote for her because the alternatives are unthinkable and because whatever slime trail she leaves will still lead to better policies than any Republican will seek, but the risk is that others who don;t care for her will forget that elections are about policy and just stay home.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
