Man Utd and Arsenal have never bought the title.
I think it's remarkable how Ferguson brought through those famous Mancunians Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Gary Pallister, Andrew Cole, Dwight Yorke, Peter Schmeichel and many others into a squad, spending next to nothing. Or how Dalglish and his Rovers squad romantically won the title in '95 without once delving into their coffers. And as for Arsenal, well Henry and Co just jumped at the chance to play for them, less than the price of a bus fare.
Chelsea too, 3 titles and not a penny spent. You name the last club that had financial restrictions, spent nothing on players in order to prepare the club to make an assault on the league title. Wiki it, google it do what you like, you won't find a single club that didn't spend a fortune on players over a period of time to have a squad capable of winning the title.
(notice, this does not include those periods when already strong squads didn't NEED to spend, because they already had done.) It's a bit of healthy competition, I wonder if Sheikh Mansour only had a few million to spend would you be whinging? Edit: You DO know, that after 15 years without winning the title, and only a couple of FA Cups, Man Utd gained the spending power of two VERY VERY wealthy racehorse owners JP McManus and John Magnier in 1984? Well, if you don't here's a little history for you.
McManus and Magnier together bought over 50% of shares in Man Utd, making them majority shareholders. With the sole intention of making Utd League Champions again, they sought to invest in the squad. After backing Ron Atkinson, who failed to deliver, the pair prompted the services of Fergie in 1986.
After splashing HUGE amounts of cash, at the time never before seen in English Footie, they were beginning to doubt him. 1989 and chants of Fergie Out could be heard, banners reading "3 years of excuses, not good enough" were seen, but they stuck by Fergie and after 3 MORE years of heavy spending, breaking English Transfer records, Man Utd were crowned League Champions after 26 years. They continued to build a humongous trading empire, raising even MORE revenue for them to spend, increasing advertising, upgrading OT (which was a wooden dump) and expanding their 'fan'base to the levels where the club was self-sustainable.
Now, without JP McManus/Magniers money, would they have bought Cantona? Would they have tempted Ferguson? Would they have bought Schmeichel?
My football knowledge goes back MUCH further than 1992. If anything it just proves how much we are getting under your skin. Utd fans don't care about 'Little City'?
Yeeeaah riiiight!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
