Why have Mark Twain's anti-imperialist essays been effectively erased from US History?

It sounds like this is material for a fascinating hub. We have certainly seen this throughout the years. Mankind seems to feel content with believing lies as long as they're told by their own party choice.

When did we stop thinking and questioning? I look forward to reading more answers or a forthcoming hub.

Actually Twain was actively involved in the Anti-Imperialist League after the US invasion of the Philippines in 1898. He wrote many essays and articles on the subject into the early decades of the 20th Century. These activities are not mentioned in most of the biographies written about him.

Because it is easier to control truth than corruption.

Twain was absolutely correct in what he said but how many Americans actually know their own history.

There was no good reason, certainly not one that made even the slightest sense.

WWII was nothing more than a continuation of WWI.

How many Americans know that the "Tonkin incident", the supposed attack on a US cruiser by the North Vietnamese, that was used to enter the US into the Vietnam war was pure fabrication. It never happened! The man who was the Secretary of State at the time admitted it 30 years later.

Just as the whole WMD thing was fabricated by Bush & Chaney.

And it goes on just as much today. We attacked Iraq even though they had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.

Look at the supposed attack on a South Korean destroyer by North Korea. They parade remnants of a torpedo that has obviously been underwater for many months, if not years, with "NK markings" that aren't more than a week old. When a well known and highly reputable metallurgist was sent to examine the remains he was denied access.

Why?

Simple, there is no way that that torpedo was involved.

The conservatives in this country are seeking to remove and rewrite every bit of history they disapprove of. This is why man lacks the ability to learn from history. Man never gets a chance to learn the truth about it.

Story must be rewritten to protect their all powerful god. Not so powerful if he requires man to lie to prove he and his followers are always right . Kind of hard for truths to be self evident if so many keep rewritting these truths isn't it?

Well, there is in modernity an attitude to undertand authors of former periods in a partial manner which suits the common beliefs and opinions which are currently dominant. Thus, many important works of the past are not widely read, or being understood in somewhat suprficial ways, whether in the U. S or in other countries.

If Mark Twain's overall ideas are important for you, learn thouroughly all his writings, and afterwards try to explain his thoughts.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
