Put it down to the nuances of the language, even though English is spoken world over, each nation has its special words and style which also find their way to the dictionaries. Humour is lost because of the gap in understanding, or also because every one has not got the same capacity as you to take some ribbing well.
Everybody is entitled to be stupid from time to time. Some people just abuse the privilege.
The timing may be wrong. People are often stressed and preoccupied so if you don't approach them when their mind is clear they won't 'get it'.
Yeah I don't get it either, I'm all about sarcasm! I think they don't "get it" because they don't want to.
There are various reasons why people do not understand your sarcasm.. Different upbringing, class, education, age, nationality are just some of the things I can pick from the top of my head.
One has to have a sarcastic sense of humor in order to recognize it as humor rather than insult.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
