We do homework here; we don't do patently obvious, copy 'n' pasted questions homework here because we largely can't. Then there are the other patently obvious Google-it-yourself questions.
I think the reason for the homework category if I understood Genelle correctly was for this reason. Some people here get very upset by homework questions so if they are put in one category they can check off that they don't want to see the homework questions. Sometimes I answer them and sometimes I don't.It depends on what kind of mood I am in.
If I don't want to answer I just scroll past. There are so many other things to get crazy over in askville besides homework questions.
Thank you for that explanation, LouLou. *Poppet* 2 months ago .
I'm hoping to get a response from Genelle. It's been 4 hours and no staff has been around, I guess. *Poppet* 2 months ago .
I would love to link this question and especially the answers to a certain discussion going on now but I better keep out of it. I'll just stand by and watch how quickly some people show their true colors and I don't have to life a finger. It's the little things sometimes that make my day.
:) .
Apparently genelle is fine with temper tantrums and name calling, I see. It's all who you know, I guess. But at least people can see what I have to put up with almost daily here.

If everyone did do their homework as prescribed perhaps there would not be so much hostility; but instead more understanding. God only knows my hands are not clean, either. But there has to be a time where opponents on a particular subject go to their respective corners and cool down.
Perhaps they have no one else to ask, maybe they aren't the best student and have trouble finding the information they need. Maybe they are just lazy. How is that ascertained from a question?
I would guess that if they see a homework topic, they would assume that asking questions about it is ok. Only to quite often be told that we DON'T do homework. THAT is what I am asking about.
If we have the category, why aren't we "allowed" to help them out? If there is a No Homework rule officially here then the topic needs to be removed. Which way is it?

I think they should bring what they believe is the answer and we can help them from there. I am not exactly sure wht there is a topic for homework, but that should be the only way it should be used, or the elves should remove it.
Just wanted to clarify - we do not believe in helping children with their homework by spoonfeeding them, as that is pretty much helping them cheat and not learn anything. However - there is a homework category because sometimes, children just need a nudge in the right direction, and it would be good for them to get that nudge from someone who knows how to convey it well. If they are on here asking - they probably do not have another good resource and if we can help them learn - well that's pretty cool!
I can see how children come on here and just ask the question word for word because of our format. A simple response like "we won't be giving you the answer directly but we'd love to help you figure it out" will probably encourage them to think a little bit and perhaps come back with their thoughts. However - if a member really feel like doing someone's homework for them - I can't say that I can fault them.It probably isn't something I would do, but hey, maybe that is a way for the kid to learn as well?
After all, if it came with a good explanation, the child could apply that to other similar questions. Hope this helps. Please feel free to respond or PM me with follow up questions and feedback!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
