Why isnt University of Oregon Ducks player, Jordan Kent, playing on the basketball team?

Jordan Kent skips basketball to seek career in pro football Saturday, December 23, 2006 Jordan Kent, Oregon's second-leading receiver this season, announced that he will forgo his final season of basketball eligibility to pursue an NFL career. Kent, son of men's basketball coach Ernie Kent, will play in the Jan. 17 Las Vegas All-American Classic.

In his two seasons of football at Oregon -- the first time he had played the sport in his life -- Kent had 47 receptions for 605 yards and five touchdowns. Kent averaged 3.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 81 basketball games for the Ducks. He also anchored the 4x100 meter relay team that won Oregon's first Pacific-10 Conference title in 2006 and was the 2003 NCAA West Regional 200-meter champion and a four-time All-American.
