Why my computer freezes when I try to format my hard disk?

I think you are correct by thinking that is a hard disk error, follow this instructions - Press windows key + R - Write "cmd" and hit enter - in that black screen type "chkdsk C:" that should tell you that the disk is in use and ask you if you want to do that next time your pc boots say yes, then reboot your pc, and it should check for problems, come back with the results.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
