Why remove the funded by Mahalo tip when I add a tip?

The basic idea is that you provide the tip for the question. If you don't tip, Mahalo steps in and provides a tip for you. Your reasoning is the other way around: Mahalo should set a basic tip, and you can add a tip to that.

Mahalo simply chose a different approach. By the way, if mahalo provides a tip, and someone adds a 'team tip', that tip IS added tot the total (a team tip of M$0.05 adds up to M$0.42).

I think that its because you are offering to fund your own question on Mahalo. In the absence of you funding it, then Mahalo will fund it instead of you (to the tune of M$0.37... If somebody else asked the question, and it was funded by Mahalo and then you added the tip it would then be a M$1.37 question.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
