Wow.. what an interesting thought. Never ever considered the " pillar' aspect of Lot's wife becoming salt. From what we see in the Word, a pillar is built upon a base which helps to support a building.
Some of the Pillars were built into the building, some were on the front of the building as a kind of entrance and were made of bronze signifying judgment. This pillar of salt was not created by God. Lot's wife became a pillar of salt.
It is very meaningful that in His heavy word recorded in Luke 17, spoken at a time when people were inquiring about the coming of the kingdom, the Lord Jesus said, "Remember Lot's wife" (Luke 17:32) Lot's wife was saved, for she was pulled out of the city and saved from its destruction. But although she was saved, she nevertheless became a pillar of salt. It is certain that becoming a pillar of salt is not a good thing; it is a shame.
That Lot's wife became a pillar of salt signifies that she had lost her function and had become a sign of shame. When salt is in the form of powder, it is very useful. The more that salt is ground into fine powder, the better it functions.
But no one uses salt in the form of a pillar. The Lord Jesus said that we, the saved and regenerated ones, are the salt of the earth (Matt. 5:13).
Our function is to kill the germs of this corrupted world. However, if we become tasteless (Luke 14:34), it means that we, like Lot's wife, have lost our function. As one of the people of God, Lot's wife should have been filled with the salty taste and been able to kill the germs of corruption around her, but she lost her taste and became functionless.
She was a sign of shame. The pillars stand upright. They stand in support of something.
Even though Lot's wife came out of Sodom outwardly, her inward stand was manifested. Her eyes took a lingering look back and what was in her was shown. She became a visible pillar of salt, her stand, was that she cared for nothing but this city of sin that God was utterly judging.
What is our stand? What are we upright and declaring in this closing day? It is interesting that Lot's wife's name is also not known.
Not worthy of mentioning. Notice that Sarah, Abraham's wife is mentioned, but not this one. We are told to remember her, but its not for something positive.
To become a pillar of salt is not a glory; it is a shame. What a shame for a believer to become a lifeless pillar of salt standing in the open air for nothing but suffering! I think this is a crucial point you raise sister.
Would be good to hear from all the saints on this. ADD Titus.. Its a very good way of looking at this matter. Its true, because when the angels came to the city of sodom.. it was Lot who sat at the city's gates ( position of an elder or someone of importance) to greet the angels.
Gen 19:1 "And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. And when Lot saw them, he rose up to meet them and bowed with his face to the ground." Note that the proverb of the virtuous woman, her husband sits in the city's gates as an elder, so we get a sense of Lot's position in Sodom.
Proverbs 31:23.
Here's what it says: (Genesis 19:24-26) "Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." That's it.
Salt accumulated vertically as a pillar. As an statue. As a rock formation of salt.
She was "longing" for the things she enjoyed in the city. She wanted to be there, her heart was not with the things of Yahweh, with God. The angels told them "do not look back".
It is God's m.o. "Peter, who do you think I am?", "Adam...where you are?" What!?
God did not see where he was? "Cain, where IS your brother?" He wants you to open what's inside the heart.
He sees it, and yet He wants us to be "ourselves" and prove what we are made of. Read the answer concerning the Islamic version of the same events. Why do you think it's like that?
Because the Catholic Church - under the auspices of Pope Boniface III trained and taught Mohamed in the Scriptures. They did not get the right version though. Although we "must seek the Kingdom first..." we must not "add to this words..." as sometimes some people or organizations do.
Like what (prophetically said) was said by Puntius Pilate "what is written, it is written.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
