Sir James Paul McCartney recieved his Knighthood because of (unlike a lot of other ridiculous reasons for unnecessarily giving knighthoods away) his contributions to the music industry. He is the most successful musician and composer in popular music history with 60 gold discs and 100 million singles to date. His song "yesterday" is the most covered song in history with over 3,700 artists copying it so far.
