One of the other men who fairly famously risked his life to save Jews was the Japanese diplomat Sugihara who did so while serving as vice-council for Japan in Lithuania. His European secretary was actually a Gestapo spy put in position to watch Sugihara. This German military agent, while not well known (and I have unfortunately forgotten his name) was just as much personally instrumental in generating the "illegal" visas that Sugihara is known for.
No, he did not go into hiding after the war, he lived openly in west germany, with support from jewish charities,he went to argentina in the early 50's and started a farm, but he was made bankrupt,he left his wife and came back to germany in 1958,he had several failed businesses and the people he helped to escape helped to support him, when he died he was buried in jerusalem, near mount sinai, the only nazi to be honoured in this way.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
