Why would a physician prescribe both Oxycontin and oxycodone since they are the same drug?

Oxycontin is a long lasting( 12 hours) formulation of the medication. Generally it is prescribed to be taken twice a day and a fast acting( immediate release) form of oxycodone such as percocet will be prescribed in a small dosage to take during the day for "breakthrough pain.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
