First of all the example you gave with the story-line from Guild Wars it’s not a good one. The story-line in Guild Wars is way behind the one from World of Warcraft. And that’s the main reason why WoW has so many fans: It has the best story a MMORPG can have at this moment and the biggest community.
Even if the graphics used in the game are behind many other games released until now, such as Aion, Lord of the Rings Online or even Guild Wars, WoW has the best story ever. If you followed this series when it started, back in 1994, you will understand why WoW is different and why it has so many fans. The fact is that many free MMORPGS are inspired by WoW and that is sad.In my opinion even LOTRO, a great game with a unique story is inspired from Wow.
Take a look at this picture:
The long answer short is: WoW has the story, the community and most important: Originality. Many so-called free MMORPGs aren't as free as they look. The might have restricted content for free players, meaning you might not be able to level past a certain point, explore certain areas, or even be able to participate in events. Some games have full acess, but sell items that heavily boost your abilities or fighting power in the game.
This would put non-paying players at a disadvantage. WoW charges a monthly fee, but except for the occasional vanity pet or mount, they do not charge additional fees for content.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
