1 Helmets may leave your face pretty in an accident, but they do nothing for spinal column injuries that leave people dead or crippled for life. Some motorcycle groups have been able to convince legislators that they don't do any good.

Chowfan. Jexebellion replied to post #1: 3 Absolute rubbish and stupidity by legislators. Motor cycle injuries/deaths are significantly decreased by the wearing of a helmet.

You now have spinal gear that helps in the event of a crash. You are way behind the rest of the world.

4 Helmets DO decrease head injuries and deaths from accidents. They don't protect anything but the head, of course, and if you are dumb enough to wear the helmets that look like old German war helmets, that barely cover the skull, and are held on with a thin strap, yeah, they will likely come off in a MVA. (I am talking about the ones like the characters on Sons of Anarchy wear, with no face shield.) These meet the letter of the law in some states, but don't do a lot for protecting the wearer.

There is a good reason ER staff (and others) call motorcycles "donor cycles. " A lot of organ recipients have motorcycles to thank, indirectly, for their new heart, kidney, whatever. As Chowfan pointed out, there is protective gear available that will protect the head and the spine, but it's not mandatory in the US. But then again, no one but professional racers used to wear bike helmets either, so at least we have made some progress there.

I don't understand why helmets are not mandatory everywhere. They should be, just as seat belts are. Not one of our prouder moments in US health and welfare history...Katherine .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
