No there will be no loss of anything due to the fact that you're using EBS. To back up the file system you should shutdown mysql, flush the filesystem, or if you are using a filesystem that supports it, quiesce it using xfs_freeze.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
