If this is your passion then you need to come to terms with the fact you cannot adopt every hard to place animal you choose to foster! That is part of the responsibility of the rescuer and I can tell you that from many years in rescue with a local group and as a one-time owner of 8 rescues most of whom could not find homes and I was stuck with them. Their options would have been to be put down because nobody wanted them or turned loose in a feral colony (life span on average 4 years) so unless you want to wind up with 8 cats and 4 dogs and paying for vet visits and all the food you need to get your head on right.
Contact every rescue group in town - the ones who use PetsMart and PetCo to hold adoptions. Those are usually the ones who are the most stable and the best. You take the animal there and tell them you want to turn it over to them.
Expect them to say they have no room. In turn you respond you will foster it for them and bring it to adoptions. Prior to joining a group, this is what I did and I had great luck doing it.
I signed the animal over to them, I became the official foster and I took the animal to their adoptions (often on Friday or Saturday) and picked up if not adopted on Sunday. However, the animal was often okay to stay at the adoption site during the week but I wanted to keep it with me during the week. You check the rescue groups adoption requirements and trust they will choose the correct adopter.
I've had animals who got adopted the first weekend and some who remained with me for three months until they got adopted. And understand that no matter what length of time I had it with me, I cried every time one of them got adopted. It goes with the territory!
You write up the information for the prospective adopter telling them both good and bad things so there are NO surprises and the things the animal likes best. It helps it transition into a new home much easier and adopters appreciate it. You can also call in a week or two and check on how things are going and offer to answer any questions.
I totally understand your dilemma but until you can part with it your head isn't in the right place. There are others out there who can love animals just as much as you and if they are willing to pay an adoption fee of $75 and up you expect they will take care of it! Good luck!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
