How long a gold-plated item will retain its gold coating will depend on how often it is worn and if it gets a lot of wear. Items like rings will get a lot of wear. A necklace will not get worn nearly as quickly.
Normally, a gold-plated necklace could retain its color for years, if not longer. I have a gold-plated necklace I have had for twenty years that has not lost its plating. It was coated with a material that protects it, though.
I would not expect a gold-plated ring to retain its plating for more than a few years. The necklace I spoke is sterling silver under the plating, and that does not seem to have an adverse effect. Both gold and silver will tarnish.
The tarnish is harder to see with gold. This will happen with jewelry that is solid gold, too.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
