Well, I would guess you are talking a minimum of 20 years, and more likely 30 or more, before you would be eligible for Social Security. As the laws stand right now, yes, you could still collect Social Security under the circumstances you have listed. But a lot could change between now and then, starting with will there be Social Security left to collect by then?

Just out of curiosity, how you already know that you will be moving to Canada and obtaining dual citizenship at that point? Kat .

Yes I know I'll have to keep up to date on the laws concerning Social Security. My fiance is Canadian and I will be moving there in July. :) I'm hoping to obtain dual citizenship while I'm there because I do have family here in the states and I'm sure I'll be back to visit often.Raych... 9 months ago .

Theoretically, as you've paid into the system, you are entitled (the correct use of that word) to withdraw from the system). But if you're 20-something now, you might not have Social Security available in 40 years. I know some now take their Social Security and go live in Mexico where the few dollars buy more.

I'll be 34 this year. I hope there will still be some left for me. I've held steady jobs since I was 17.It would certainly be disappointing if nothing was left to show for that when I'm ready to retire.

I've got a Roth IRA and have saved for that time, but it would be nice to have a little SS money back after seeing it being taken out of my check every week for years and years. Raych... 9 months ago .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
