It is one of those passing the buck things that people do, blame the present incumbant for problems which were the result of previous administrations. In the case of the Arizona anti-immigration laws it is a spot of hypocrisy let’s face it, if Obama had enacted the law, Republicans would be all over him for his discriminatory practices and violation of basic human rights. Still when Sarah Palin dropped by Phoenix to visit Arizona's brave new experiment in arresting Latinos.
And guess what: She loved it! And if you hate it? Well, you only have your favorite black president to blame!
Arizona's state government, showing a real flair for the Blut und Boden craze that made Germany such a hit in the 1940s, thinks that everyone should be able to prove their citizenship at any time, especially if they are doing something suspicious, like being Latino. Sarah Palin, well-known conservative intellectual, totally agrees. And if you don't like it, well, blame the President.
The reason Arizona has decided to turn itself into a police state is that the state legislature's ties to racist hate groups is unsurprisingly leading to police-state legislation. The thing is what the President's job seems to be for her is to comprehensively reform America's immigration system whilst juggling economic problems combined with two highly unpopular wars and a rogue state with Nuclear weapons trying to restart another war whilst another is trying to get nuclear weapons, and it kind of is, he is not really doing his job. But, this is not what Sarah Palin is talking about when she says "do your job, secure our border."
What she actually means by "do your job" is "say meaningless strong-sounding things to comfort Arizona xenophobes." Which is not technically the president's job. For now.
Sarah Palin is hardly someone over whom to be concerned. What should be considered is the vile, uneducated, and incorrect response by Ciaron, whom I will assume is male. The argument for passing the buck can certainly be made, especially as this problem has been around for more than sixty years.
However, while I wholeheartedly disagreed with Obama's campaign promise to provide a path to legalization, the fact is he has done nothing at all to fulfill it. Whatever country from which Ciaron comes apparently doesn't offer classes on American Governmental Process. No president enacts laws.
He, or she, has only one veto on any bill, and no authority at all if that bill is again voted upon in Congress. If you want to blame anyone for "immigration reform", or lack thereof, blame Congress. Read AZ 1070, there is no provision for discrimination or violations of human rights.
It is essentially a restatement of federal law. All that is said is that an officer, in the course of lawful contact, and with probable cause, may attempt to ascertain the immigration status of that individual with whom he or she has come in contact. Oddly, and hypocritically, California's own Penal Code, specifically Section 834b says the same thing as SB 1070 almost verbatim.
As for his comments regarding Obama's priorities, well, he apparently doesn't understand that every situation he described is interlinked. We are a nation at war. Not two "unpopular" wars, but one war on two fronts.
The first thing a smart leader does when leading a nation at war is secure it's borders. Granted, Bush was just as much at fault as is Obama, but again, Obama has made NO progress on a campaign promise other than not only allowing, but supporting, a foreign dignitary to chastise the United States on US soil. We do indeed face a rogue state with nuclear weapons that is threatening another war.
Something else for which we may lay the responsibility firmly at the feet of George Bush. My question is, however, what has Obama done about it? We also face another rogue nation trying to develop nuclear weapons.
And Obama is doing...what? Having studied German history in depth, I find his "blut und boden" comments oddly offensive yet amusing. SB 1070 has nothing to do with ethnicity but everything to do with legality.
His falling back to Reductio ad Hitlerum renders his argument null and void, however. It is the last resort of someone with neither the education nor the facts of an argument to win it. I find it interesting that someone from another country, as I know of no American that uses the word "whilst", may sit back and judge the sovereign business of the United States without the least idea of what they are talking.
So, was Sarah Palin wrong in telling Obama to do his job and secure the border? Nope. Thus far all he has done either complain about the situation with which he was left by the prior administration or apologize to the world for imagined American transgressions.
But this leaves me torn: should he continue this course, and ensure that he will not be reelected in 2012? Or should he simply do nothing? I'm afraid I must disagree with Mrs. Palin.
I hope he continues to do nothing. The less he does, the less damage the next administration will have to repair.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
