I think it's up to Wall Street to save our butts. The government can only do so much. If Obama goes too far, he will stomp on our federalist toes.
Not that the right wing would ever allow such a thing. Yes, our free-market capitalism is a double-edged sword. It's great to have freedom, but there is inherent danger in using a system that so clearly favors the greedy and insensitive.
Obama is doing his best to create some communication and place some regulation on big business, but we've seen how difficult it is to pass any legislation. The democrats are too scared to do anything that might upset the country, and the republicans are too stubborn and old-fashioned to allow any kind of change to take place unless it is championed by someone from their own party. Yes, capitalism is good.
Individual rights and state rights are great and we should support local business. Capitalism becomes a bad thing when businesses become "too big to fail." At that point, they become all of our responsibility because their actions affect all of our lives every day.
Wal-Mart has sent our trade deficit sky-high with a communist super power. But government is not allowed to intervene, even though it is hurting our country deeply. Wall Street is scared and not spending, not investing and our economy continues to stagnate.
All of this is beyond Obama's control. So no, I don't think Obama will recover us from recession. I don't think it's Bush's fault we are in it, either.
The free market is really pretty free. Sometimes too free if you ask me. It's up to Wall Street and Wal-Mart to quit being cowards and start saving us.
The government could be offering them incentives to invest and spend, or granting incentives for buying local, or placing tariffs on Chinese imports. But that is a whole can of worms there. Taxing imports is not something Obama could probably do without the right fillibustering and filleting his junk.
Hope this post will give you some thoughts. I think the biggest problem with this country is the "us against them" split. The polarization of the parties makes us all general stereotypes.
I don't trust big business and I am against abortion. Is there a political party that fits me? Goodbye everyone!
It had it's roots in the Clinton administration. It is not solely a GOP recession - both parties are to blame for it. EDIT: Summertime posted below: "we were messed up no regulation on food on wall st on oil have anyone noticed we don't pay 5$ a gallon anymore.
I wonder why." It is because the economy collapsed. This is call supply and demand - there was lower demand for oil, so gas prices dropped.
It has nothing to do with what Obama wanted. The Dems in congress wanted a new tax on gas to keep the price up at $5, but there was a backlash to stop it in an Election year.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
