Not Compatible. The Y50 HDD is specified as a 7mm thick. The HDD you show is 9.5mm thick.

The Y50 is specified as 5400 rpm HDD. That is not to state a 7200 rpm will not work, but there is a chance there is insufficient power.
That is not usually critical. Additional concern is the recovery of Windows and drivers, normally as a clone off a working HDD. And, the Y50, like many Lenovo laptops use Nylok Coated screws and are supposed to be replaced if removed.

It's 2.5" form factor, the same with all laptops. I believe your laptop is SATA connection, so any brand or any type of SATA HDD or SSD or SSH is interchangeable.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
