Probably. S performance in the PGA Championship was rather telling, however. He _never_ loses from a 54-hole lead.
You could see him losing his composure that last day against Y.E. Yeng. Usually, other golfers choke in Yeng's situation. The fact that Tiger is getting older and more frustrated with his slump will make it very difficult to win more majors.
Age isn't a huge factor, however, due to modern medicine. Medicine has been keeping Woods in the major records race, having had a couple career-extending knee surgeries already. If he's going to win more, however, he's going to have to play the fantastic golf that he knows he can play - not rely on other golfers choking, since they're getting wiser to his weakness (he's not invincible!).
I think He will eventually be able to. He is just in a little bit of a Majors slump. He's one of the best golfers of all-time.
He has won so many tournaments in his career it it hard not to believe he will.
I think he probably will, but there is no guarantee. Tiger will be 34 next season and needs 5 to pass Nicklaus. Jack Nicklaus won 6 majors after the age of 34.
Should Tiger equal that he'll finish with 20, two ahead of Nicklaus. I think Wang won against Tiger at the PGA partly because he didn't succumb to the pressure others feel when playing with Tiger in the final round. Sure Tiger shot 75, but he would have needed a 72, even par, to tie Wang, not easy on a day when the best round was a 70 (by Wang, nonetheless).
The point I'm making is, IF other players take note of how Wang handled things, and just play and not worry about Tiger in the final pairing with them, they too could hold him off, keeping him from winning majors so easily. The key will be next season. If Woods goes another season without a major, then he very well might not pass Nicklaus. My best guess is that he'll finish with 20 majors.
Yes Tiger Woods will definitely surpass Jacjk Nickalus 18 major records. This guy has golf in his dna. "Woods was a child prodigy who began to play golf at the age of two.In 1978, he putted against comedian Bob Hope in a television appearance on The Mike Douglas Show.
At age three, he shot a 48 over nine holes at the Navy Golf Club in Cypress, California, and at age five, he appeared in Golf Digest and on ABC's That's Incredible.28" (information obtain from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_woods). Note TW is only 34 it is even possible for him to break the record next season. The question I would have asked how much majors do you think Tiger Woods will win in his golfing career?
He definitely will break that record, but he will not do very soon. IMHO Tiger is in a slump right now which is due at least in part to his focus on his family. Over the next few years he will refocus on his game and come back with a vengeance.
I predict Tiger winning a Grand Slam in about 5 years.
The US Masters was the time for Woods to prove that he can still dominate the golfing world. He fell just short but it was clear that he was back and ready to win Majors. Woods was widely expected to topple the record of Jack Nicklaus, which stands at 18 Major titles, before the end of his career.
However, the World No.1 has not won a Major title since 2008. He currently sits four behind Nicklaus with 14 and may now struggle to beat the mark. Shortly after the US Masters, Woods went on to win by two shots at the 2013 Players Championship with an overall score of -13.
However, the question people are asking now is: Can he carry this form in to the US Open? In recent years, other players from across Europe, America and Australia have shown just what they can do. For example, Adam Scott has always been challenging for the Majors in the past few years but never managed to get a title under his belt.
This year, Scott finally won the US Masters. Players, such as Rory McIlroy have been performing fairly consistently for a while now and in fact, McIlroy became World Number 1 in 2012. Due to the surge of talent in recent years, it is going to be hard for Woods to have the same success as he used to.
There are around 50 players that can have a magical week and score the winning round nowadays, compared to when Jack Nicklaus was playing his golf. Nowadays, we have no clue who is going to win a Major, as one week, one player might have a top week, then the other week, they could have their worst game ever. Furthermore, Tiger Woods needs to re-find that winning mentality, that made him superior to his other golfing rivals.
Until Woods re-discovers this, it will be very tough for him to win a Major and tough for Woods to reach Nicklaus' record. A very important part of Woods' game, has been his putting. This part of his game made him a cut above many players for many years now.
Even though in the last few years, his putting has gone downhill, it finally looks like Woods is finding his form again and making vital putts to save par of make a birdie. Major winners always need four days of excellent putting and if Woods continues this fine form of late, a Major could be coming his way. On the other hand, a winning Tiger Woods could cause havoc across the golfing playing field.
If the glory days for Tiger Woods do come back, Jack Nicklaus' record could be reached. It's just a case of how quickly Woods wins his next Major. He needs to win won soon if he is to break Jack's record.
