Will Wikipedia contributors start defecting to Mahalo 2.0?

I think if they're smart, they will. Why contribute to Wikipedia for free when you could earn cash for doing it at Mahalo? That being said, I also know there are some hardcore Wikipedia advocates that are all about the "cause."

Mahalo shouldn't go head to head with Wikipedia. Mahalo has a better user interface, people communicate directly with each other. It's a different beast, and it should differenciate itself.

I think it would be a smart move to make. Why do it for free if you can get paid? Some I suppose do it for the "love" of information, and won't really care for getting paid.

They won't switch. The main aim of helping others isn't to get paid, but it certainly does help make you more helpful if you know that by being helpful, you'll get a little pocket money.

I see room for both. I come to Mahalo in large part for two main reasons: good links and Mahalo Answers. I go to Wikipedia if I want *lots* of information or just a quick fix.

I can see value in both sites, and although some Wikipedia users may jump ship, I highly doubt most will.

Yes I think so, but it will probably take some time as not as many people know about Mahalo 2.0 than Wikipedia or Google. I think that Mahalo needs to do more advertising to get the word out, maybe even advertising on Google. People will probably switch over when they hear you can make money, this is a great time to start an initiative like this since everyone is looking for spare cash.

I think Mahalo content is excellent. For the most part, the content is family safe. The expertise level is impressive.

Mahalo seems to have branded itself as the search engine or answer engine for twitter. Would 50 dollars a month entice a PHd to maintain a Mahalo web page on Dark Matter and Dark Energy? If Mahalo can convince Experts to publish content on Mahalo and use the site to encourage discussion of the publications, the Wiki will start to move quickly to Mahalo.

However, I see Wiki as a bullet train moving along its own high speed railing. It will take alot of resource to encourage their users to change route to Mahalo. Short term, the answer is some migration and Long term, probably not.

This really isn't a wiki system, so I'm not sure that they would. Part of contributing there is the collaborative aspect, where people contributing to an article get together and discuss changes. That's not really part of the system here, and if that's the draw for those people, I don't see them defecting over here.

On the other hand, if they just like sharing knowledge, and want to make a little money, and find they can get the community aspect via Mahalo Answers, then I can see them coming this direction. So it comes down to individual personality.

I think the casual wikipedia editors (people who make a few edits when surfing for a subject) will not move to mahalo since the wikipedia is easier. Just click edit and go. However, I can see some of the hardcore folks moving here, maybe even taking care of both pages.

No. Why should they? Wikipedia is a common and collaborative work, where people cooperate on the same texts to improve and regulate them: this aims at creating a reference work.

Mahalo seems relying more on individual independent contributions, the collection and wealth of which creates a rich knowledge base.

I don't think many Wikipedians will shift to Mahalo although the offering is tempting. Most Wikipedians are Open Source or Creative Commons zealots who abstain from commercial activities like an AA member from alcohol. However, for some of them, like me there is no problem, mixing one or the other!

Mahalo just provides a need and presents information in a total other way then Wikipedia. In my opinion it is in parts more comprehensive in this presentation!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
