Going on personal experience, I would venture to say that this is a mass hysteria. Every 10-15 years or so, there is a theory of an end of the world. In 1988 there was a large religious belief that the rapture would occur that year.In 1999 there was the scare of the computers all shutting down as the date rolled over to "00" which would then cause widespread chaos.
And now here we are approaching another foreseen apocalypse, which has another loose basis for its origin. The 2012 myth refers to the Mayan calendar, which is divided into eras. The last Mayan calendar showed one of those divisions to occur on what we will know as December 21, 2012.
That is really all the myth is based on. It could be something as simple as us dividing our time into millennia, or into B.C./A.D. It has been theorized, though, that the Mayans prophesized an apocalyptic event to occur and cause the world as we know it to end, although no plausible support for such a theory exists. But as you know, with people a good story is a lot of fun, and so we have ourselves yet another end-of-the-world scenario, as we seem to have every generation.
As far as natural disasters go, of course a major volcano could erupt. These things happen (St. Helens 1980, Pinatubo and Montserrat in the 1990s). The sun also does send out large solar flares periodically.
However, they typically do little more than disrupt our radio signals. I think 2012 will come and go just as any other year, just as 2000 did, and just as 1988 did.
I feel that there will be a bunch of "end of the world" parties! Party like it's 1999! But seriously, I feel that life will go on.
For centuries, people have been predicting the "end" and it hasn't happened; I think that explains enough.
There are exactly 2012 days between the June 20 2007 Summer solstice and the December 21 2012 Winter solstice. Albert Einstein said if the honey bees were suddenly gone mankind would have about 4 years left to live. Well, the honey bees are going extinct now and at the present rate in another year or so there will be no more honey bees left on earth.
In this final episode of the X-Files, it is revealed that on December 22 2012, aliens will invade and take over the world, one day after December 21 2012. The Vatican holds very closely to the Prophecy of St. Malachy. This Medieval Monk had detailed visions of 112 Popes until Doomsday, also known as The Biblical Apocalypse.
The current Pope, Benedict XVI is the 111th named Pope, only one Pope remains. Guests, join the SlickDeals.net Community for free to remove this ad. I think you might need to get a life, but I've also been told I am an asshat.
Ummm, sure, I believe it. The Mayans predicted it, Nostradamus predicted it, Jesus said it would be so based on what he knew of God and God's laws.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
