With Social Security suvivor benefits, does husband still collect wife's benefits after wife dies?

As an example, husband and wife, both age 75, both worked for 40 years and made Social Security contributions. Wife dies at age 75. Does her surviving spouse still continue to collect the wife's Social Security beneifts monthly and will he continue to collect her Social Security benefits until his date of death?

Ok, I'm confused. How can the wife be collecting survivor benefits if her husband is still alive? Or, if it is her first husband, then no.

The second husband cannot collect benefits bexcasue her first husband died. Second husband is not a survivor.

Now, if you are talking about husband getting SSI after wife dies, he cannot get her benefits, but can, in some cases, apply and get his own. Here's some infor. moneyover55.about.com/od/socialsecurityb... htm.

Ok, I should have waited for the details. The answer to your questions is no. See the link I posted above.

Can my daugther get social security benefits when fathe dies even if hi didn't sign the birth certificate.

Can you collect social security disability and a retirement check at the same time.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
