Would my Laptop connected to my tv connected from VGA-HDMI 1, give sound or just video?

Could be something as simple as pushing a button. Check your keys for something like "Crt/LCD" or whatever. For example it's fn + F8 on my laptop.

Your tv has to have a vga cable and older laptops dont, go to best buy and askthem.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
