This is just a hypothetical by the way, there's no important life altering decision on the line or anything.Be honest though - I'm curious to see what the majority of people have to say. =) Asked by Katiecat21 52 months ago Similar questions: pursue boyfriend girlfriend Lifestyle > Relationships.
Where I personally would draw the line... One line I would not cross is marriage. If someone is married I would not even entertain the idea of a relationship with a person. #1 I think it is very disrespectful to their spouse and to them and to basically everyone involved.
#2 Why would I want to be with someone who is willing to cheat on their spouse. Believe me if they are willing to cheat on their current spouse they are willing to cheat on you too. Once a cheater always a cheater. As far as boyfriend/girlfriend I guess I would be a little more open to pursueing someone depending of the seriousness of their current relationship.
If they are just dating around I guess I do not see too much wrong with it. If they have been with someone for a long time and are in a serious committed relationship and they are willing to see you behind their serious relationships back again I do not think I really want to date that person anyway as it tells me a lot about who they are as a person. If someone pursued me who was already in a relationship I would insist they end that relationship before we explored any new relationship.
I guess I am kind of sensitive to this as I have just recently went through a bad experience in this area. There are plenty of single unattached people to pursue...I am not wasting my time on someone already taken..
Off Limits" for me I think it would be very disrespectful to pursue someone who is in a current relationship, dating or marriage. Personally, I would be very hurt and angry if that happened to me. Think of it this way, if John Doe pursued Mary Ann (who was dating George) and Mary Ann dumped George for John - how much trust would John have for Mary Ann if the situation were reversed. In my opinion, it is a childish act to pursue something you (general terms) can't have and that person would have to matrue to understand the concept of a strong relationship.

NEVER-EVER! Does the saying "What goes around, comes around" mean anything to you? .
No... I would certainly be friendly and polite, and I would feel free to have normal conversations with such a person, but I wouldn't go after someone in a committed relationship. If they've just started to date and are still dating more than one person, they aren't yet committed, and I would feel free to express my interest. If they're married, they'd have to be separated AND living separately before I'd see them, and divorce proceedings would have to have started before I took them seriously.

Stepping into another person's relationship uninvited is always a risky thing, no matter how casual it may seem on the surface. Relationships are messy, complicated and volatile things. There are so many factors thrown into the mix and every relationship is different, just as each person is different.
How you handle involving yourself in someone's life should always be done thoughtfully, with consideration for the others involved. Remember, whatever happens, also happens to you. Dating someone married?
On so many levels this is a bad idea. Marriage is a promise between two people and should not be given lightly. How could you trust someone who was willing to break that kind of promise to be with you?
For your own sake, avoid that potential for disaster, no matter what the other person may say about his/her marriage -- about to break up, unhappy, misunderstood. Best response: "When you're free, we'll talk. Not until!
