You open a Christmas gift, only to find it to be the most ridiculous, or ugly item you've ever seen. You hate it. How do you react?

Depends on who the giver is. In my family, we have an agreement that if one of us receives a gift that we don't like, we politely tell the giver so we can return it and get something better. This is the result of years of us getting, for instance, clothes that we never wear, and then finding them years later with the tags still attached.

We just don't want to waste money, is all. A gift that we don't like and don't use is a waste. If it's someone else, though, I smile and pretend to like it, and maybe consider regifting or selling it once I get home.

From what I understand, agreements like the above aren't too common.

I'd smile and say thank you, If a family member gave me the gift I would re-gift it to a co worker or friend if it was really bad and I knew no one could use it well there is always the salvation army.

No, I would thank them for their generosity and just stay quiet. I would most likely re-gift without their knowledge. http://ts3.explicit.bing.net/images/thumbnail.aspx?q=1319311580598&id=5071604e59c7c1390ca9b7c0bf6f4076&url=http%3a%2f%2fumsibsmile.psy.miami.edu%2findex_files%2fimage7041.jpg

You smile really nicely and thank the giver. Once you get home, you can do as you wish with the eye sore.

I was once just horrified at a gift I received. I was 15 and the gift was a hideous looking doll riding a tricycle. I just stared at it, horrified. My step mother sounded really apologetic when she explained to me that it was a joke present, and that joke presents were a tradition in their family.

I don't think I handled the situation well. In hindsight, I know the other poster is correct: I should have smiled and graciously thanked her for the gift, privately vowing to toss it once I got home.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
