Does not mater what the old landlord allowed. The new one has no obligation what so ever to also allow it. It is illegal to alter a rental without landlord approval.
No landlord ever has to give any such approval and most do not. Does not mater what you think of upgrades. News flash- it IS NOT your property!
You making deal with a contractor without the proper approvals is on you. The landlord has done nothing wrong here. You did.
Any $ lost is between you & the contractor. By your other post you are not even a legal resident of the unit. You are breaking multiple laws here.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
