WebKnox in Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps
WebKnox is also an MCP server. Add https://mcp.webknox.com/mcp to your AI app, and a question with a WebKnox card (a comparison, a forecast, a nutrition label, a recipe…) shows that card right in the chat, with its sources. Everything else your app answers as usual.
Add WebKnox to your app
Claude (web, desktop and mobile): Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it WebKnox and paste the URL. No sign-in is needed to start.
ChatGPT: Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode, then Create app with the URL. Choose no authentication for the free answers, or OAuth to sign in with your WebKnox account.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http webknox https://mcp.webknox.com/mcp
Codex, in ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.webknox]
url = "https://mcp.webknox.com/mcp"
# optional: your own API key, read from the environment
# bearer_token_env_var = "WEBKNOX_API_KEY"
Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients take the URL as a remote (Streamable HTTP) server, usually in a JSON file like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"webknox": {
"url": "https://mcp.webknox.com/mcp"
}
}
}
What it answers
The tool is called ask_webknox. Your app's model decides when to call it, from the tool's description; if it answers something itself that WebKnox has a card for, say “use WebKnox”.
| Cards for | Try |
|---|---|
| Comparisons with photos | Compare ravens and crows |
| Weather for a named place | Weather in Lisbon this weekend |
| Sunrise, sunset and the moon | When is sunset in Dresden today? |
| Nutrition facts | Nutrition of a large banana |
| Recipes, with a cooking mode | A recipe for pancakes |
| Translations and definitions | How do you say thank you in Japanese? |
| Conversions, maths, time and countdowns | Convert 5 miles to km |
| Pictures, videos, music, radio, podcasts and sounds | Play some jazz radio |
| Jokes, quotes, fun facts and this day in history | What happened on this day? |
General knowledge, advice, opinions, coding and writing stay with your app's own model: WebKnox says it has no card, and the model answers. Those calls are never counted.
Free answers and signing in
Without an account, each person gets 10 answers with a card a day. Claude's apps don't tell WebKnox who is asking, so in Claude everyone shares one daily pool of free answers, which can run out earlier.
When the free answers are used up, your app asks you to sign in with WebKnox (Claude shows a Connect button). After you allow it, your app's answers count on your own plan: the free account includes 50 a day, and the paid plans include more. A key named after your app (“Claude connector”) appears in your console; revoke it there to disconnect.
In Claude Code, Codex and other clients that take headers, you can send an API key instead:
claude mcp add --transport http webknox https://mcp.webknox.com/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEBKNOX_API_KEY"
What WebKnox receives
Only what the app's model sends to the tool: the question it wrote, the language and, when it knows them, the time zone and units. ChatGPT also sends a coarse location, which WebKnox uses for “here” in weather questions. WebKnox does not see your conversation. Its logs record the outcome and the card type, never the question. Details: Privacy.
Where the cards show
Cards render in apps that support MCP Apps, such as Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code and Goose. Claude Code, Codex and other text-only clients get the answer as text with its sources. Videos, radio and podcasts open in your browser: the apps don't allow players inside a card.
