25 books every sixth grader should read?

I would recommend accessing THE CORE KNOWLEDGE curriculum for a comprehensive and insightful list of books for sixth graders. I do know that this curriculum calls for "The Illiad and Oddesy", "The Prince and Pauper" and "Julius Caesar".. these are all very good novels for sixth grade students.

Hating Alison Ashley is a complete classic, and has a great message about liking people that are different to you. Everything by Roald Dahl (except his works for mature audiences, of course : ) ), Paul Jennings, the Harry Potter series to name a few of my favourites.

The Boxcar children series, Encyclopedia Brown, and Harry Potter. Also, stuff by Jerry Spinelli (Wayside School, Maniac Magee), Matt Christopher (books about football, baseball, and other sports), Andrew Clements (The Landry News, The Janitor's Boy, etc. ), and Rick Riordian. Among others...

I am the eldest of six siblings, the youngest of whom is in third grade. Thus, I come home to stacks of 4th/5th/6th grade literature. These are some of my personal favorites.

4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling.

7. There's A Boy in the Girl's Bathroom by Lois Sacher.

10. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster.
