29F living at home with grandparents and mom (laid off almost 2 yrs ago) going to back to school FT with PT job. I want I want to move out! When I got laid off I thought It might be a good idea to move back home and save my money for school and for my bills.

But now it has gotten me down. I understand that people are making sacrifices and do what they got to do to survive this crap economy, but I have never enjoyed living at home even as a child growing up (very negative environment). NOw I want to move out for my sanity.

They are always negative and honestly has somewhat gotten in the way of "dating" because I live at home with parents. I am still waiting until I get a FT job to make the move, but I will be going to school FT in January which will not allow me to work. I am going to take out a loan for school and for rent/bills.My question is should I (1) stay at home until I graduate (January 2012) or (2) find a FT job then move out and use the loans to pay for school/rent/bills?

Students do this all the time, right? Take out loans for school/rent/living expenses, etc.Help! Asked by adviceplease 19 months ago Similar questions: 29F living home grandparents mom laid yrs ago back school FT PT job Family.

You probably want to move out You probably want to move out and live by yourself. You are an adult now. But you know the score.

You have to balance your lack of money with what you want to do with your life. Living on your own is probably going to cost you an additional $10,000 or more. That's quite a bit of money.

You also didn't say what you're going to school for. A history degree costs as much as a business degree, but you'll make much more money with the business degree. However, going to school now might be a good idea, because the economy should be turning around in 2012, so that might be a good time to go job hunting.

If you think you can swing the money, then move out. And certainly try to make as much money as you can before January.

2 Some of the best advice I ever got was "You have to give, to get"...We hear, all the time, from people who "move back in" with some parent or other "To save money", and then complain that while theyare basically mooching on someone else's money their 'rights' arenot being respected, or their 'adulthood' is being violated in some way..."Adults" don't mooch... They deal with the realities of their life, and if'they' move back in they know enough to bite the bullet and be grateful for the help they are getting, all the while knowing that theyare creating an inconvenience for their parent(s) or whomever is the substitute for the parents...God Bless...

Adviceplease replied to post #2: 3 I am very grateful that they are allowing me to stay with them. I don't want to 'mooch' from them anymore because they have done a lot for me. I think it is time to face reality like you say and live like an adult and face the consequences.

If I have to take out a loan to get through school and all other financial obligations during that time, then I should. But everyone is telling me (my family included) that I should stay home to "save" my money... that's another 1.5 years staying at home...

Take out loans for school/rent/living expenses, etc.Help! "This is the "Modified Question". Excerpted from your Entry #4 above: "My question is should I (1) stay at home until I graduate (January 2012) or (2) find a FT job then move out and use the loans to pay for school/rent/bills?

Students do this all the time, right? Take out loans for school/rent/living expenses, etc. Help!" Since your 'actual' Question has not changed, we are left to conclude you have changed the prelude so I have now had 3 people examine what it is you have written 'before' and 'after', so to speak, and the best we can do is that you have added an exclamation point after "I want to move out", so instead of "I want to move out!

", your run up to the Question now reads, "I want to move out! ". Is this accurate?

I know I would like to help, and I know there are others here who would also help, and by 'help' I mean we can clearly argue for your staying at home, or moving out in a sensible fashion, and then it would be up to you to choose, but for right now, without enough information to be certain, it appears you are very unhappy in your current circumstance, and if that is correct it is probably the case that you ought to take the steps necessary to get happy, or else bite the bullet and live with your unhappiness because it is temporary, and will eventually stop. Kind of like when a person goes through boot camp enroute to becoming a real URL1 may seem the unpleasantness is never going to end, the "D.I. " is never going to stop his/her incessant "teaching", and the recruit is never going to earn the "Eagle, Globe and Anchor". But, the truth is it does end, and people do get happy again, and it is worth it.

And, therein lies your answer...Ask yourself the Question: "Is it worth it?" Then, and only then, will you know if you should "...stay at home until I graduate...", or "...move out..."Speaking of "Basic Training", may I offer a suggestion?...It seems fitting...

6 Yes, you may offer your suggestion. It is definitely temporary and I realize that. But is being unhappy for another 1.5 years worth it?

I don't know. I am trying to find all the benefits of staying home and financially it makes sense. I think it's more of a mindset.

Home should feel stressful it should feel comfortable, but it isn't for me. When I'm home, it's stressful and a negative environment. The exact same reasons why I left home 10 years ago apply now.

Adviceplease replied to post #1: 2 The program that I am trying to get into is like FT job (accelerated nursing program), there is no way I can work at the same time, otherwise I would. I am trying to find a FT job, but I am wondering if I should move out once I find work and then use the loans to pay for school and rent while living on my own during school or should I just stay at home until I am done with nursing school (2012)? .

Take out loans for school/rent/living expenses, etc. No, they don't. If you cannot afford rent and living expenses, then you have no business taking out loans for them. Stay in school, live at home, put up with the house rules, and when you graduate and get a job you will have money to live on your own.

Taking out a loan to pay rent so you can "date" is a bad idea. Anyway, I doubt any bank would give you a loan for such a thing anyway, since you do not have a job. And don't think you can tell them it is for school, only.

They check. Didn't you ask this before? .

Adviceplease replied to post #3: 4 They do cover living expenses (bills, rent, new computer, etc), it just depends what kind of loan you get. IT's just really hard, I had a career before the economy went down and was living on my own, I guess in my mind don't feel as independent as the person I am. I understand that the economy is crap and everyone is moving in w/ someone to make it work... for me it's almost like I've failed or didn't try hard enough... but I have. It's just gotten me down.

5 Well, it would appear that you have already decided what you are going to do, so I don't understand why you keep asking for "adviceplease". If you are looking for someone to tell you it is the right thing to do, I can't tell you that. Ir is not a good idea to graduate and start a new life with a lot of debt hanging over your head, so best of luck to you.

And, one thing I do know. Nurses need a LOT of patience. A LOT.

If you cannot wait a year to begin dating (which was your main problem in living at home the first time you asked this question), I wonder if you are going to have the patience required in your chosen profession.
