1. Different tribes view them different ways. Bear in mind we are over 500 distinct cultures.
My tribe, being traditionally shepherds and ranchers, don't have a good opinion of wolves. When the wolves are hunting elk in the forests, we leave them alone. When they come down and take our lambs, then we shoot them.
2. Dreamcatchers are ojibwa cradle decorations, inventing in the early 20th century, they aren't an ancient thing, and have no spiritual significance. Non-natives go nuts for them, don't know why.
For the rest of our traditional arts, you'd have to learn from an actual person. 3. As far as white people being interested in our culture?
Great, that's good that you want to learn. The trouble is with the white people who want to steal and appropriate it for themselves. Especially our spiritual beliefs.
We don't share these with outsiders. For many years I had a small booth where I sold my jewelery and beadwork at craft shows. I had a lot of people ask me how I did some of my nicer pieces, actually taking photos so they could copy the patterns.
That's not cool. You want to buy the piece, fine. You want to steal the pattern so you can copy it and sell it yourself?
That's theft. And no, I won't share my trade secrets with you. Please feel free to email me with any further questions.
Also- kinda sad how many non-natives popped up, not to answer your question, but to inject racist comments instead. Feel free to report them to YA as well.
1. We have wolf stories......but I can't tell you about those. However, I do think the fascination non-Natives have with wolves is just ridiculous.
If a wolf gets too close to my house, my horses, my dogs, my kids....I shoot at it. I've killed more than a couple in my lifetime....and I won't hesitate to do it again. On my Res we have traps set up, as wolves can be particularly bad at certain times of year....this being one of them.
2. Nope. Traditional methods cannot be shared with you.
If you want to use general crafting methods, go right ahead. 3. I am skeptical of anyone who is interested...as they generally don't even have a clue as to our beliefs, customs, or spirituality.
They base their interest off of the new-age nonsense that floats around and romanticized Hollywood garbage....like Twilight. *Why do non-Natives always feel they need to pop in with their two-cents? Its clear they don't know anything about us.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
