I have three bird feeders and two suet cakes outside all winter! This spring I'm going to buy a mealworm feeder and put up my hummingbird feeder. Different birds like different types of feeders though.
If you want to attract Northern Cardinals, I would suggest offering black oil sunflower seed in a hopper feeder and you should have plenty of Cardinals at both of the feeders!
