Its not the helicopter that's the probglem They way that I read the news story, there were two problems, but neither of them had to do with the aircraft. 1) the area where they collided - over the Hudson river - has no air traffic control system. It is pretty much a free for all - planes and choppers go in and out with no management.

L They share a radio channel but that's it. So there was no organization to who was flying and where. 2) The light plane was flying faster than the helicopter -- apparently the plane's pilot was paying not paying attention and simply flew into the back of the helicopter.

Like driving on a road without paying attention and rear-ending the car in front of you. So I would be less worried about helicopters than I would be about small planes with stupid pilots.

I heard about a car crash too. I still drive. One crash does not make an aircraft unsafe.

Only a pattern of crashes with similar causes that can be traced to the design, construction, or operation of the aircraft would worry me. Helicopters, when operated by experienced, well-trained pilots, are extremely safe.

I'm with you, not for me. Thank you. I don't even like water cruises...will stay on terre firma.

The air space around New York is dangerous with all the traffic of small aircraft and helicopters that are not regulated. You have to have a swivel neck to keep track of everything whizzing by you. This should now be regulated in view of this accident..

1 Whether I heard this or not, I would no way, no how would I go on one of those things. I too LouLou will do all right on the ground.

2 No way. They were giving the statistics of helicopter crashes in Hawaii and the Grand Canyon and it surprised me to hear how often accidents happen. I'll keep my feet on the ground, thank you.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
