The i5 has turbo boost which would put it past the i3 ghz for performance , the bios might need to be upgraded for the upgrade to a a i5 or i7.

If your budget permits, then go with Intel i5 Ivy Bridge. It gives better performance than Intel i3.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
