While this is a good idea in that it will improve the overall quality of Mahalo pages, it would make things easier for PMs (read, it will bring about more rapid improvement) if each page that gets such a banner will generate an automated email to that page's PM notifying them of the matter. This way, if someone has 500 pages, and 300 of them predate the current requirements, and are thus not compliant, Mahalo will not need to wait for weeks for a PM to cycle through checking all their pages one by one.
That is a good idea because it keeps the PM's clearly informed about what they have to do. I consider though that not only the number of words is important, but the content should be interesting enough. It is similar with Wikipedia disclaimers. Is the banner visible to the visitors or only to the PM?
This page needs a banner:mahalo.com/english.
I like the idea of a note at the top of pages that still need more content, but the banner that is on there right now is too big in my opinion. I think a text line or a thin banner at the top would be better than a big block in the guide note position.
Sounds good! We want to be the best of the best, and this is a great way to get there! There are many many neglected Mahalo pages out there, and thanks so much to staff and our beloved VMs for all their hard work to get those pages up to standard.
Just a couple questions: 1. Do you think that EVERY page HAS to have 300 words? The reason I ask - I went through my 80 or so pages I manage, and about half of those had under 300 words that I am now slowly working through updating.
But the problem is, some of those are are not easy to update. Most of them that fall under the word count come from barnraisings - especially the wine barnraising we had before CL started. Some of the rarer ones, I've literally went through 30 pages of google results and this is all I can find.
Even wording it out, some of them only hit 150 with the info available. I realize this doesn't apply to *that many* pages, but when it does, will an exception be made? 2.Do ALL things in list form get ignored in the word count?
I personally use lists a lot, whether I use a list section or points (with *). On some things, it just makes the formatting look a lot nicer. It's not always lists of names, movies, etc, but it does give a nice organized way to write, say, a company's history. Does this mean I should be taking this stuff out of lists so it gets added to the word count?
Example: The Employee's section of this page -> mahalo.com/linksys.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
