The Grudge movies (all of them) were extremely shallow. "The Others" was horrifyingly scary. That's a good movie.

For me, one of the most effective horror movies ever was "The Haunting" from 1963 (PLEASE do NOT mistake it for the crappy remake of 1999! ). This movie was directed by Robert Wise and starred Claire Bloom and Julie Harris.It was about various paranormal researchers investigating an old mansion in the country with a very evil history.

Most of the scares are done with minimal special effects and using unusual camera angles/lighting/music. The viewer must use his/her own imagination much of the time (a superior way to generate feelings of horror in an audience rather than using "in your face" gore, IMO). Robert Wise created a VERY atmospheric film which at times leaves you wondering if the scares are totally real or if some of the main characters are just losing it.

I won't say more because it will spoil it for those of you out there who have not seen it. I highly recommend it."The Others" is also a very good scary movie with an interesting twist. I also still consider the original "Omen" movie (with Gregory Peck & Lee Remick) to be VERY frightening.

However, I believe that one was rated R. Peace .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
