I have tried most of the Mexican beers on the market, and have found two that I think are good enough for a Mexican themed party or holiday. Negra Modelo is the only dark beer that I like. It's brewed by the same people who bring you Carona, but I was surprised by the taste.
Tecate is my second choice. It tastes better than Carona when used with a lime. When I serve Tecate, I usually offer a chilled glass with the rim covered in lime juice and lightly touched with salt.
My fave Mexican beer is Dos Equis (amber), but for a light Mexican beer I'll choose Pacifico. Don't forget to buy a decent bottle of tequila, too - one that friends might like to sip. I like Sol de Mexico's anejo - a great sipping tequila.(Disclaimer: I know the people involved in importing the mentioned tequila.
But, it was chosen THE best anejo in an esteemed - and large - competition in San Francisco last year. It is available in California, Arizona and selected other places.).
Believe it or not, there now is good Mexican beer! And, it gets imported to the states, although not widely. It's from the Cucapá Brewing Company in Baja California and they brew a full line of styles with best reviews going to their Pale Ale, Imperial Stout, and Barley Wine.
This is genuine craft brewing and the people giving Cucapá good reviews are familiar with craft beers. There is no need to settle for the typical mass market beers from Mexico any more than there is need to settle for mass market American beers. Just say no!
Life is too short for Cheap Beer! Save the lime and salt for your tequila! Mexican mass market beer is particularly bad because it uses corn as an adjunct.
If I were having a Cinco de Mayo party, however, I would probably serve Margaritas because even though there is the rare good Mexican beer, it is not typical of the country or culture.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
