Clean pilot thermocouple, check gas supply, light pilot, reset main gas valve. Make sure your natural gas or propane supply is available and working. When you go to light your pilot, you should either smell the odor added to the gas or hear the faint gas hiss.

Most furnaces have a pilot thermocoupleto make sure the pilot is litbefore they allow the main gas supply valve to open. Make sure the pilot thermocouple surface is clean. Brush and clean it lightly with a wire brush, steel wool pad, or light sandpaper.

Also cleaning the gas burners with a wire brushwill help the burners to be more efficient. The main gas valve usually goes offwhen the electric power does,it usually has a reset button/switch on it to turn it back on. There is often a manual main gas overridewhich should only be used in event ofa prolonged power outage.

There is sometimes a thermostat override,to manually force the furnace burner and/or blower to turn on. Running the gas a little bit at a timemight/should force any water out of the supply line. Sources: My personal experience and professional opinion..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
