Anyone had this experince on Craigslist?

I run a home based B&B for guests coming to football games at a college in our town. Recently, I advertised rooms available on Craigslist. On a Friday, a man with a very middle eastern accent called to book a room.

I went through my normal process of obtaining his information and giving my contact info only to have him cancel by Mon. Morning via email. I would have thought nothing of this except for another person who advertises rooms on Craigslist said this also happened to her and she thought that someone was checking to see if we were discriminating against certain ethnic groups.

They do warn against this and threaten fines to those who are discriminating on the website. I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience. Asked by Kyasi 53 months ago Similar questions: experince Craigslist Games & Leisure > Travel.

As far as I know it's not uncommon for various websites or social activist groups to do spot checks. It could have been someone from Craigslist making sure that you're not discriminating, or it could have been a public interest group also checking. I know around where I live there's an organization that gets volunteers from various cultural and ethnic groups to call about renting apartments to make sure that there's no discrimination going on.

And if there is they usually make a big story of it in the local paper. On the other hand, maybe there happened to be two middle eastern men looking for rooms off craigslist who happened to change their plans. Sounds like you handled the situation well.

Non refundable deposit. You could start having a non-refundable deposit at the time of reservation that way you will avoid the people who make bookings just to see if you are in any way discriminating and then tie up your calendar for people who really want to make a reservation. A non-refundable deposit at the time of reservation is not a discriminatory practice just a good business practice..

1 Raoul, regarding your answer "non refundable deposit. ":I do require a one nights deposit and that was the information I had shared with him. I do not accept credit cards so had given him the contact info to send the deposit, which he was to do first thing on Monday morning.

Instead he cancelled. I've been doing this for 11 yrs and like I said would never have even suspected a thing since many times people change their mind or cancel. It's just that others who have advertised on Craigslist have told me of the same type call... and if they don't have room, they get a call shortly after from someone without an accent asking for a room on the same nights.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
