Anyone know how to fool a dog into taking tablets? Hiding them in things but he cleverer than I thought?

I have an elderly Rottweiler that can spit a minscule pill at you that was buried in a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter! Forget smooth, she finds it in a heartbeat! "Pill Pockets" (pet stores have them -- made by the "Greenie" makers), worked great, but then she got tired of them and will basically let you bounce them off her face.

The only thing that's working right now is to take an inch long piece of microwaved hotdog (the heat releases all those GOOD smells), cut a small slit in the side and carefully push the pill in the slit (ALL the way). Then we make her do a trick (shake-hands, catch it in the air, speak, etc. ), and toss it to her. USUALLY, she swallows it whole.

Right now she's taking several large pills two times a day, so she doesn't always go for the hot dog trick. In that case, we put the pills in a pill pocket, mold it around the pills, open her mouth (yes, she let's me), put the pill pocket in the back of her throat, close her mouth quickly, hold it shut, and rub a piece of hotdog (she can't help herself) on her nose, and she immediately swallows the pill and is rewarded with the piece of hotdog! Don't roll your eyes, it works for me!

Be patient, be kind, praise them often, and love them alot.

If it is pill form, crush it up real well and hide it in a peanut butter sandwich. I have always had luck with this since dogs love peanut butter. If it is a capsule, I have had the best luck opening the dogs mouth and placing it in the back of the throat, hold the dogs mouth and rub his neck, this will cause him to have to swallow.

Yes they are clever, but there are ways to fool them. Here is a website offering some other options that might work better for you :).

Slather it peanut butter (or cheese whiz), put in back of dog's mouth. Hold mouth shut and rub nose gently with your other hand. This assumes you have trained your dog to let you put your hand in its mouth.

Otherwise, you may be bitten.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
