Anyone know what might cause a computer to go into a hibernation type shutdown without notice while actively in use?

Bernation and Standby features disabled in setup. Some additional peripherals recently added. Once into this shutdown mode, will not reinstate without a cold boot.

Could this be a power supply deficiency? Any other ideas, please? Asked by anton455 26 months ago Similar questions: computer hibernation type shutdown notice actively Consumer Electronics.

It could easily be a thermal issue. Use software such as SpeedFan (almico.com/speedfan.php) to monitor the internal temperature sensors on the motherboard. If you turn on SpeedFan logging, it will tell you what the temperature was when the machine crashes.

Additional peripherals *may* have placed a drain on the power supply, but they may also be causing things to overheat. If adding something internally significantly changed the airflow, that could cause problems. Make sure you open up the case, remove all that's removable and get in there with a can of air and clean out all the dust bunnies..

Anton455 replied to post #1: 2 No, this is a Dell desktop, pentium 4, 2 gigs memory, 2 hard drives, 1 CDRW, 1 DVDRW and various USB devices. The computer is a little over 5 years old and probably (haven't yet removed it to check) a relatively small power supply. Seems that it worked fine until the additional peripherals were intalled (1 of the hard drives and the DVDRW).

3 Hmm. That shouldn't exceed the capability of the power supply. Could it be overheating?

Are the fans working? .

4 Five years old, perhaps fine dust in the cooling fins. Other evidence of overheating would be present though.

And not a scheduled or normal shutdown. " "how can I shutdown my computer,,if cannot shotdown?" "Anyone have a solution, or idea for a computer that will go into, but not come out of standby/hibernation?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
