They Are Better Today's electric cooktops come in many varieties. If you like or are used to cooking on electric, you can find many great options - one great place to look is the Great Indoors (Sears). I bought a range for a Fix and Flip property that was GE that had a warming section on the ceramic top.It also had a warming drawer in addition to the regular oven.

If you are doing a regular cooktop, they may offer the same features. Induction is another type of electric cooking. The top stays cool to the touch and the heat is transfered through the flat pans (you can buy many different types of these at any good cookware department) and to the food in the pans - it moves the molecules within the food to warm it up.

This is a great alternative if you have kids and want them to be safe around the cooktop. Another recommendation if you have kids is to have the controls on top of the cooktop. I personally prefer gas because it is more adjustable.

Again, there are so many more options today. Some of the top-end appliance vendors have distributor demonstration dinners - no charge to you. You can see how the appliances function before buying.

Viking and Wolf have an ultra-low setting that you can use to melt chocolate without a double-boiler...and even on a paper plate without it burning! There are also many extra features that you can add such as griddles and grills. There are so many features available on appliances today that I can't even begin to explain them all.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions. Price is always a factor when considering your options - the more options, the more it will cost..

The improvements in the last ten years are huge! Ten years ago the average electric heat coil took 3-7 min. To reach full temp.

And up to 1 min. To even get warm, and the cool down time was similar. Cleaning the old units was impossable they smoked no matter what.

The new units available today heat to orange hot in as little as 15 seconds, and return to cool in a similar time frame, all though the surrounding materials stay hot for a little while just like a gas stove would. The nice feature with the new electrics is they have a hot indicator light to let you know the surface is hot. Clean up of the new units is basiclly the same as wiping up the counter (just wait for it to cool first).

I've seen some get burned surfaces but thats possible with gas also (you just can't let things get burned on with either one). The fact that they produce no cabon monoxide is a big plus. I've always been a gas stove fan due to the old world comparison, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy an electric today based on the cooking perfomance.

The only down fall I see with Electric would be that gas is generally cheaper to operate, with a stove's limited operating time, I don't know that the cost would differance would be substantial enough to even worry about it. Sources: Home Inspector/ novus Chef .

I have three kinds ... I travel between four residences. I have three types of ranges and here is what I’ve found. In two residences I have electric ranges. My newest range is a Whirpool with a ceramic glass top.

It came with my new condo, so I didn’t get a choice. While the oven works well for baking, I really don’t lilke the burners. They are radiant heat with two large surfaces in front and two small ones in back.

I don’t like reaching to the back for the small burners, but hate to use the front ones with so much hot surface exposed. They also stay hot, so you really have to be careful not to put anything on top of the cooking surface just in case. I also have to be very careful not to put any plasic items near the range.

I’ve melted quite a few things just from the radiating heat. My other residence has an older electric range with the traditional coil heating elements. Of the two types of electric ranges, I like this one best.

But you still have to be careful not to burn things in pots because when you turn the heat off, the element still stays hot. My favorite range is gas.In one residence it is a gas range from the early 80's. It has a spark-assist self ignition.

It has worked flawlessly for me. When I want high heat I turn it up. When I want low heat I turn it down.

When I want things to stop cooking, I turn it off.My other range doesn't have the self ignition. I don't mind lighting it with a lighter, but that's at my cabin. For a home in town I would go for the self-ignition.

For the oven, I like the gas broiler better than an electric one. As for baking, I think both gas and electric work equally well, but I'm not an expert baker. Just an occasional cook.

Hope this was helpful. - Margy Sources: personal experience, embedded links .

In my experience, they haven't changed much I have always had electric cooktops because I’ve always lived in places where natural gas isn’t available, and I don’t want one of those big tanks. IMO, they haven’t changed much through the years. We just built a new house and put in a ceramic top.

I love it because it’s so easy to clean and is "prettier" than regular burners. But it is s-l-l-o-o-o-w-w-w! You really do have to adjust your cooking methods a bit to accommodate it.

Plus it’s even slower to change temps than regular electric cooktops. The gas ones still have the big advantage for precision on temperature. But I am an uninspired cook so I don’t really miss it.

Everything I do pretty much gets cooked on gh or is held at Simmer, so anything in between is overkill for me. I would say if precise temperature regulation is important to you, you’re still better off with gas.

I like my electric range I know you asked about a cooktop, but I have an all Electric house and find it to be just as good as when I had a mix of Electric and Gas. I think it depends on personal preference. Some people like Gas some people like Electric.

The draw back to Electric is no way of using it during a power failure.

Ask a question! " "It Was 40 Years Ago Today....." "Where were you thirty years ago today? " (18 answers).

It doesn't seem possible, but 40 years ago today.....

Which are better -- gas or electric cooktops.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
