If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. (Mark 3:25, NIV) I think the biggest reason you're correct is the hidden truth that there is a 2 party war. This is simply not the case.
Both Democrats and Republicans are infact the same. Sure they may argue over the details of which pocket to rob your from and which part of the Government they want to grow and shrink, but the big picture is nearly identical between the two. The fact that they argue so much among themselves is pretty much silly and very confusing to foreigners looking in at American politics.
Don't believe me? Look back at Kennedy's 1962 Economics Speech. Kennedy was a Democrat, but it reads like a page directly from the GOP platform.
How about the number of politicians that have no issue switching parties? Do you think a Capitalist could ever associate politically with a Communist? Of course not, yet it happens.
Both parties believe in Government and that the controls of the Government are meant to direct society. Both parties have grown the size of the US government and believe in a moderate amount of social programs. The problem is coming not from the political parties "warring", it's coming from the fact that the American Population is growing more polarized and is starting to feel that they are completely unrepresented by their politicians.
Conservatives are not represented by the Republicans, although the Tea Party has sent a wave through them, it's has not been a realized paradigm switch within the party. The Liberals have currently won and put an actual progressive Liberal in place of a Democrat in office (Obama). However, many of them believe that Obama has not been liberal (Socialist/Progressive) enough for them.
The bottom line is that there really is only 1 prevailing political belief in Washington but the populous is not falling in line. There is room for at least 3 major parties (if the Democrats and Republicans would merge into 1) in this country, but the ideals of those parties are so diametrically opposed that they cannot coexist. In essence, I agree with your premise but believe it's far more complicated than you indicate.
No, America will not survive as we know it. It appears to be headed for a split or a civil war. What is for sure is that it can not continue as it currently is.
Economically and politically we're standing at the edge and staring over.
Yes Give the cons their deep red states: mississipi, bama, louisiana and texas. Dems get the rest.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
