Are Kirby vacuum cleaners worth the price? What do you think about Kirby vacuums?

I had never heard of Kirby until the other night when a couple of Kirby salesman came to my door asking if I wanted to have my carpets cleaned for free. I won't go into the details about Kirby's sales techniques... which I do find unappealing... but I'm curious if anybody out there has bought a Kirby vacuum and if you think it's worth the price. I can tell you that they were asking more than $1,800 for the newest model (the Sentria).

The lowest they would go was $1180. I never knew vacuums could cost so much! And I passed on the offer -- even though the vacuum was quite impressive.

Kirby lasts forever I have a Kirby (was more or less brow-beaten into buying it). I will admit that they do work very well. But, as with anything of excellent quality, you are stuck with it forever.

I do like my Kirby, but the bags and other accessaries are expensive. I would rather have purchased a refurbished Electralux or a less expensive some other brand. That way when something new comes along, I could buy it without feeling guilty.

I guess I would sum it up by saying buying a Kirby is an almost life-time commitment. Hope I helped! .

I'd take my Dyson any day over a Kirby! I used to own a Kirby, and while they can clean, they are heavy as all get out and really not too practical. I am now the proud owner of a Dyson, and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I LOVE my Dyson...it's light weight and easy to use, bagless, and never loses its suction power! Best vacuum I've ever owned! .

For that price, they should do the laundry, too. We bought one about 15 years ago. I should say it was my husband's idea.

We kept it a few weeks, and I told him to call the salesman to come pick it up. The price tag was way too much for a vacuum! I've never missed it.

Well, yes and no. I was suckered (errrrr) converted several years ago. A young man came to our house to give a demo.

I normally don't hava a problem sending them away but this kid was different. He had hearing aids in both ears and was almost completely deaf. Of course he came in and I spent hours listening to his pitch and talking with him.

At the time we had a son in college and here this kid was working his way through selling these darn vacuum cleaners. My husband showed up from work when we were about to wrap it up and he was so pleased to meet my husband that the two of us then sat through the whole thing again. At one point we were talking about future goals and he said "well, I am slowly loosing my hearing and in a few years will be totally deaf.

" He went on to tell us how afraid he was of what his life was going to be like when that happened. Of course we bought a Kirby,,,,,sign us up! Full Price!

Now we only have carpet in two rooms of our house but what the hay, it's a terrific machine! .

I can't speak for the vaccuum, which seemed insanely expensive since you could go through 5 regular ones for the same price, but my issue is the sales techniques -- do some on line research and look at all of the litigation they have been through. As for us, we had the sweaty guy get dropped off to do the "one room for free" demo, and not only wouldn't he leave, but we made the mistake of letting the guy out of our sight as he did our staircase carpet. Once done he seemed more than willing to leave, and a few hours later we noticed a big change jar with around $100 in change missing from my dresser.

Completely our fault, but DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THESE PEOPLE! .

I have owned SAME Kirby vacuum for 18 yrs. And it still cleans today, just like it did the first day I bought it! I too was astounded of the price (even back in 1994) $1,800 was alot of money.... But over the years I have witnessed my friends who have purchased 4-5 even 6 vacumms and paid $1,200 - $2,500 and they still are not satisfied!

My G-4 edition has helped clean my 2000 sq home over the years with 5 kids dragging in dirt by the tons. I only paid around $700.... which I helped sell 3 other Kirbys and then, Kirby gave me $50.00 credit for each which brought my total to $700. Over the yrs I have replace the hose and the brush belt (3 x's)... I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND A KIRBY!

Hope this helps you with your decision! .

I'll start from the beginning. I got a call telling me that my "friend" referred me for a free carpet cleaning. The appointment time was at 6pm and the salesman stayed till 10pm.

(my fault). He came with a new Kirby Box that he seemed to weigh a ton. Got right into his presentation.

Telling me how many trips he's won and free Kirbys that he can choose to resale for a reduce price. After that he set up his Kirby. I remember thinking what a complete mess.

My kids will run off with some of the vacuum parts. He kept telling me he had an hour and forty min drive back to the place he was staying. He told me that the vac was $2450 but since he is a top producer he could give it to be for less.

I vacuumed before he came in anticipation of my free room cleaning. He asked me to get my existing vac out which is is a dyson. He absolutely put it to shame.

He poured out half my salt onto my living room run and vac'd it 52 times. The Kirby picked up a million times more than my Dyson. I think it had something to do with him dropping it closer to the floor.

He vac's my mattress and pillow showing me the dust and dead skin that he removed. I bargained his down to $1000 tax included and 0 % financing for 12 months with 0 down. He didn't like that I choose to call my husband because for some reason he needed to use our phone for the financing.

I ended up saying yes, after calling my husband, he determined that the sales tactics were horrible but the product was good. ***** My husband quickly asked some co workers around him and they counseled him to cancel the order saying that the Kirby made Vacuuming less desirable and a huge obstacle for the week. The weight of the vacuum is the problem.

The price is another part of the problem. I know I will never use many of the features like the shampooer and a number of the attachments because I won't be able to figure out how to use them. He sd it comes with a CD but the odds of me having the time to watch it is slim to none.

When I declined he went nuts. Very rude, "I don't need this sale anyway. Life goes on.

" He was out in record time after I declined regarding the weight of the machine. I guess I'm keeping my Dyson which keeps thing more enjoyable.

" "Do you use antibacterial soap and cleaners in your home. Do you think you should stop? " "Does anyone know were to find a kirby vacuum keychain?

What is the cost price of Kirby vacuum cleaners-sentra model.

Do you use antibacterial soap and cleaners in your home. Do you think you should stop?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
