Are pedophiles born that way?

Well I don't think people with normal sexual attractions can choose to be pedophiles, I certainly can't and I hope the same is true for most people here especially since this is a parenting section, so I'm going to say no. I've read that there is a common neurological difference in people who have attractions to children, animals, and even objects, that is different than straight people or even gay people, in which their brain has trouble reacting in disgust to certain sexual desires. The pattern was found in many adult's brain activities, just as much as women, and it's possible more of the human population is effected by this than we'll ever really know.

The issues is really acting on it! I think that is why people from bad homes or who were abused are more likely to follow into their urges and go from victims to abusers.

That is actually a very big debate in the science/psychological community. Psychology says that they're born that way. It IS a mental illness after all.

Most pedophilia (philias and manias are quite similar) patients can be treated with an assortment of therapies, most commonly drug therapy. SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and anti-androgens have been used to combat the urges; both by treating the lack of serotonin and depriving their bodies of androgens (which play a huge role in male sexuality). Female pedophiles, while less common, are treated somewhat differently.

Still on SSRIs, but they're often more commonly paired with other drug therapies. So I'd say they're born that way. Like I said, huge debate though.

Obviously it's a taboo subject, but that's the way I look at it. On Netflix they have a documentary called "Pedophile" and it takes a look into the psychological side of pedophilia. It's quite fascinating.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
