Are people afraid any more to ask those controversial, thought-provoking political questions on here because -MORE?

This place recently has all the excitement of a ladies sewing circle with the same old boring questions getting repeated time after time after time, eg. Blood types, pregnancy, read a book, saw a movie, the s-o-s over and over. I think there were maybe 2 posted today - BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN THIS PLACE WAS FUN AND HAD A LOT OF GIVE-AND-TAKE! It's gotten BORING!

It's up to us to change it. Instead of leaving - and not asking the questions. Throw a couple of good ones out there and ignore the "idiots" who get insulted or take it personnel.

I've found that even with the "new" rules, as long as you're respectful, you can get your point across. Sometimes it's "thought provoking" to figure out how to be sarcastic in a respectful way.(Sorta like telling someone %($*^^(*(%@!(! and have them smile back at ya! ) .

Politics is a topic filled with disagreement and passion on both sides. To expect us to sit down and act like a Sunday School classis unreasonable. I Agree Old this place is just about to bore me out.

Political Correctness is just a way to stifle and censor speech and it seems to be working here. Maybe AV should open up a room for politics and call it "No Holds Barred" and put a warning up stating that people are free to say what they want. Then make them sign a waiver saying they will not report anyone for saying anything that doesn't break a few, easy to explain rules.No profanity and no personal threats could be enforced but everything else is acceptable.

I am sick and tired of the self appointed "hall monitors" who think they are the local sheriffs when they are actually the "enforcement nerds". They, IMO, are ruining the site.

I used to seek WISDOM on AV... Last year or so, I see naive' opinionated questions and answers that frankly sometimes are quite--STUPID... I have'nt asked a question in over a year, because I KNOW I'll get a stupid answer...BTW--I have been sworn to secrecy as to IDENTITY, but in the last 3 years there have been 3 people on AV who are FAMOUS.. Two in high level modern politics, and one celebrity...They used to PM me.. They too also sought wisdom, but found little...

Seems that way,if you don't agree ,there is always someone waiting to hit the abuse button.

I agree it is boring....real discussions can't take place...can't stimulate each other in discussions.

Anything not in the rut is called hate by one side or the other. But it just means mutual incomprehension - most fo the time. I find one or two a wek I can help.

That is good enough for me. Some I just pick on.

I think it's more because the questions that are intended to be thought provoking are lost in the blare of the trolling.

I kept getting banned on even the most mundane comments I made. No one gets banned for making mindane comments. They get banned for breaking the ToS of this site.

I am sick and tired of the flamers who ask *intelligent and thought provoking guestions* only to insult others who hold a different opinion - and then blame another member when they get slapped down for their actions. They think they are smarter than the rest of us, and do not have to follow the ToS, when they are actually sad little people who do nothing but ruin this site with their hate and bittereness. They, IMO, should leave if they don't want to abide by the rules.

This place was great before they got here - people could have opinons, and talk about them, without being stalked by trolls who think this place needs to be a no holds barred insult fest. They have ruined this site.

You're right but it's a new place with new rules. You would have to fire all the elves that monitor interesting questions. Remember, the big fights we used to have?

It was interesting but got uncivil at times; this isn't as exciting but I guess the idea is to make us more courteous to one another.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
