Are social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook making us shallower?

Yes and no. Many people spend a lot of time online 'socialising' with friends but most still see those friends anyway. What makes some people shallow is when they want as many friends as possible without even knowing them.

What's the point?

I'm a firm believer technology makes us all dumber. The reason no one reads 'real' books anymore or newspapers is because technology ruins our concentration so we are not real thinkers anymore. Some of the junk I've seen that people deem as popular proves this on the web news.No one concentrates enough anymore to be a deep thinker.

I don't know why this went up twice. Gotta love messed up machines I suppose.

First of all this is a good question :)Secondly, it depends how we use it as...if to locate your old friends then definitely this has done wonders by relocating your old classmates and friends and we are now just a click away. But for those who tend to tell us about their whereabouts in a very minute level i. E where are they right now and with whom and sending pix via their smart phones...I feel they are not enjoying the moment with the company they have rather, than trying to network on a broader level and are concerned with the comments they are getting on their post on fb or twitter.

Sadly, I believe so. People are willing to say much more hateful things on social networking sites than in person.

I don't think so, it depends the way use the social media.

In some cases technology makes people shallow or dumb but it depends on how they apply the technology, if they used it for good and wise then it is better and have good results.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
