Looking at the last 20 years for a process that spans centuries if not millenia is simply nonsense. Scientists generally are talking about the global warming that is obvious when you look at the average temperature since the industrial revolution (hundred year time scale; first link). This temperature is indisputably higher than the average on a thousand year time scale; second link.
That said, it seems like the earth naturally goes through periods of relatively dramatic temperature oscillations (from -12 up to 4 degrees) when considering a million year time scale; third link. Regardless of the cause, if we are indeed heading for the historic 4 degree periodic temperature increase (as can be inferred from the final plot), then that would kill off most of humanity. It is something we should be concerned about, whether you personally understand why or not.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
